Usually we both spend around 30-45 minutes reading before falling asleep. As soon as I tried reading I couldn’t keep my eyes open so after reading 1% on my Kindle I closed it up and headed off to dream land. Even though I only read for a couple of minutes, I’m excited to have started reading “My Share of the Task: A Memoir” by General Stanley McChrystal. I have always respected General McChrystal and after listening to Tim Ferriss’ interview with him I immediately added his two books to my wish list.
Read MoreI’m happy to report that last night was far less eventful than the previous night. Though I only slept for 6.75 hours, I only woke up once during the night. After an insane week, today finally let up on the high volume of meetings that I had during the first half of the week. I still had a handful of meetings but it wasn’t the crazy back-to-back schedule of yesterday and Tuesday.
Read MoreSasha usually sleeps through the night without making a peep. Well, last night around midnight I was scared out of bed by her barking at our front door. Something or someone must have spooked her awake and when I heard her it caused my heart to start racing and do a cursory check around our apartment.
Read MoreThough many people prefer it to be like a sauna when they sleep, I try to keep the bedroom around 68 degrees or cooler at night and sleep with only a sheet over me. According to several experts/studies, this is the ideal temperature for optimal sleep. When I woke up in the middle of the night it was 62 degrees in our bedroom which made me very happy.
Read MoreWhile rifling through our storage closet on Saturday to get Darren’s cat carrier, I found one of those double fans that is meant for windows. When we lived in Tiburon we couldn’t use it since everything was sliding glass doors so I had forgotten about it. I took it out and installed it in our bedroom window to make it even cooler at night and block out more of the street noise when we leave the windows open.
Read MoreBefore falling asleep last night I decided to nuke my phone in an attempt to solve the overheating and battery issues. I had many of my settings backed up so once all of the apps downloaded again it didn’t take too long to get running at full speed. It was also a good excuse to remove apps that I’m no longer using.
Read MoreWhen I was walking Sasha last night before bed I could see a police helicopter a couple of miles in the distance with their search light on. Thinking nothing of it, I came back upstairs and got ready for bed. After falling asleep we were both awakened by police sirens and cruisers fish-tailing onto our street. You could hear their screeching tires as their lights were bouncing off of our walls. Like a week ago, we’re not sure what happened but whatever it was it probably wasn’t good.
Read MoreI’m not sure what’s going on but last night I woke up 6 times even though I managed to get 4.5 hours of deep sleep again and a total of 7+ hours. In checking my UP app it follows the same routine throughout the night of waking up for a minute then going into light sleep followed by deep sleep. While I only remember waking up once, I’ll be interested to see if I have the same issue tonight.
Read MoreEven though I woke up 3 times throughout the night, I still managed nearly 4.5 hours of deep sleep which is between 1-2 hours more than I normally average. It was another early start to the day since we had our global employee meeting this morning so I had to get to the office around 45 mins earlier than normal.
Read MoreTypically, each morning I scan my email that has come in overnight. Usually I do not have to reply until I get to the office and sit down to process my inbox. However, this morning there were emails that needed to be replied to and reports that my team had to work on processing earlier than usual.
Read MoreMy day started out with a stop at Quest Labs to get my first of two blood tests over the next week before starting my sixth round of chemo one week from Sunday. I used to be border-line squeamish at being stuck with needles but after having it done so many times I now know the exact vein and needle gauge the phlebotomist needs to use.
Read MoreThe morning started out with taking Sasha for another long(er) walk. It’s only 0.35 miles per walk on average, as of right now, but that was still farther than I was walking her before. After a fun weekend, today was time to start another fast-paced week of non-stop meetings leaving only small pockets of time to get project work done.
Read MoreAs we laid down to read before falling asleep we heard a helicopter overhead. It didn’t phase either of us at first because we are on the landing path for the San Jose airport. However, after a few minutes the helicopter was getting lower and starting to circle right above our community. In the distance we heard police sirens getting closer as well. That’s when we finally got out of bed to look out the window.
Read MoreThough I didn’t fall asleep until 1:00a I was still able to get 3.75 hours of deep sleep. It would have been nice to sleep in a bit but Sasha ensured that I woke up by 7:00a. For today’s workout I attacked my least favorite piece of cardio equipment: the stationary bike. Before starting my workout I took time to stretch my shoulders, upper back and legs. I haven’t done as good of a job stretching my shoulders out over the last few days.
Read MoreSince we were going to watch the San Francisco Giants vs the Oakland Athletics in the 1st “Battle of the Bay” game tonight, I had to drop Laura off at work. Instead of coming back home to work for the day I decided to go into my office since I was already halfway there. Fridays are typically very quiet in our office since so many people opt to work from home thus it can be a great day for getting a lot of work done when you are one of the few there.
