Day 363: A Throwback Music Day

Usually we both spend around 30-45 minutes reading before falling asleep. As soon as I tried reading I couldn’t keep my eyes open so after reading 1% on my Kindle I closed it up and headed off to dream land.

Even though I only read for a couple of minutes, I’m excited to have started reading “My Share of the Task: A Memoir” by General Stanley McChrystal. I have always respected General McChrystal and after listening to Tim Ferriss’ interview with him I immediately added his two books to my wish list.

After missing my sleep goal several times this week, even if only by a few minutes, it was good to sleep 7.5 hours last night even though I woke up 4 times.

I had a few meetings throughout the day which were decently spaced apart giving me an opportunity to get through several admin tasks that I wanted to close out before the end of the week.

My team decided to make it a throwback day by sharing older hip-hop songs. It was fun listening to older songs that I haven’t heard in a while.

Even though I still have tenderness in my right ankle/shin, I went over to the gym to get my workout in. I modified today’s Spartan WOD to:

Warm-up

  • Dynamic warm up
  • Jump rope - 5 minutes
  • Jog - 5 minutes

Main set

  • Run 1 mile
  • 30 burpees
  • Run 1 mile
  • Pushups - 15 reps
  • Dumbbell front raises (10 lb dumbbells) - 15 reps
  • Bicep Curls - 15 reps
  • Medicine ball slams (12 lb medicine ball) - 15 reps

Cool Down:

  • Stretch

When I was doing the rope I didn’t think I’d be able to run because of the soreness I was feeling in my ankle. But, once I started jogging my ankle increasingly started to warm up and feel better. I am really glad that I pushed through the soreness to complete the workout.

After a very long and busy week for the both of us, tonight we have just relaxed with a snack plate and episodes of The Office.
