Day 351: Falling Asleep with a Police Helicopter and K-9s Outside

As we laid down to read before falling asleep we heard a helicopter overhead. It didn’t phase either of us at first because we are on the landing path for the San Jose airport. However, after a few minutes the helicopter was getting lower and starting to circle right above our community. In the distance we heard police sirens getting closer as well. That’s when we finally got out of bed to look out the window.

We saw police cruisers come flying in with lights and sirens into our community. The helicopter’s search light was turned on. We also saw two K-9 units get brought in.

We’re not sure what happened but I assume that they were searching for someone that they boxed in to this area hence why they brought in the helicopter and K-9s.

After taking Sasha for a long walk I headed over to the gym for the same core workout that I have been performing the last few Sundays with the exception of last week since it was the day after my Spartan Race:

Warm-Up

  • Dynamic Stretching

Main Set

  • Overhead Alternating Reverse Lunge w/Side Bend (8 reps per leg)
  • Feet-Elevated Dumbbell Alternating Chest Press (8 per arm)
  • Medicine Ball Transfer (12 reps)
  • Offset Step-up Shoulder Press (8 per leg)
  • Mixed-Grip Inverted Row (8 reps)
  • Side-to-Side Glider Plank (10 per leg)
  • Single-Leg Straight-Leg Deadlift and Row (8 per side)
  • Weighted Half-Wiper (10 per side)
  • 1 minute rest

x3 rounds

Before starting my workout I took time to really stretch out my shoulders. It felt good to get a full stretch in.

In between sets I watched the CrossFit Games highlights again which helped to push me through my workout.

This workout is by far one of the hardest core workouts I have ever performed and that’s why I keep pushing myself through it each Sunday.

For the first time in a few weeks we only had to get the car washed and run to the grocery store so we were able to get back home quickly.

When we got home from the grocery store I took Sasha for a shorter walk than this morning but it was longer than it usually is.

I have been using MapMyFitness to track her walks since yesterday so that I can keep track of her walks.

As we were walking it struck me that it’s probably not your typical use case for MapMyFitness or other fitness apps. But, since I already use MapMyFitness for tracking my workouts I figured it would be good to keep track of hers as well.

We met friends for drinks and dinner in Los Gatos, a cute town that’s 15 minutes away from where we live. It was a nice way to bring the weekend to a close after a few back-to-back days of fun.
