I slept well last night, only waking up once. Unfortunately I won’t be able to accurately track my sleep again until next Tuesday when my new UP2 band is scheduled to arrive. The warranty on my UP24 had expired so I needed to purchase a new band. I decided to go with the UP2 since I don’t need heart-rate monitoring, at least as of now. It is something that I can always upgrade to in the future.
Read MoreTypically I listen to podcasts or audio books on my drive to and from work each day. Today I listened to a fantastic podcast episode by Tim Ferriss as he interviewed General Stanley McChrystal and former Navy SEAL Chris Fussell. General McChrystal has two books that are on my reading list, one a memoir and one about leadership, that I was already looking forward to reading. Whether you’re a fan of the military and/or leadership-related content or not, you should take time to listen to this podcast episode - there are so many interesting tidbits.
Read MoreI slept better than I did the previous night thus waking up feeling refreshed and ready to take on my first day back to work. I don’t drink coffee or tea in the morning therefore I rely heavily on how well I sleep. Luckily I had the same phlebotomist that I usually have so it only took about 10 minutes to sign in, get my blood drawn and hop back in the car. He’s really good at hitting my vein on the first shot so I only feel a momentary needle prick compared to others I’ve had that try searching for a vein with the needle already in my arm.
Read MoreIt felt wonderful being back in our bed last night especially since we had a smaller bed on vacation than we do at home. The fireworks continued for a while during the night which scared Sasha and she hid in the bathroom in our bedroom. Even though it was cooling down outside, we purposely kept the windows closed and air on to help muffle the noise. When I woke up later in the night I saw her back on her bed right next to me so that made me feel good.
Read MoreWhen we woke up this morning we quickly got dressed. We wanted to spend time as much as we could down at the pool before having to leave for the airport. It was overcast outside so we couldn’t go swimming but did enjoy just having our legs draped over the wall’s edge watching the waves crash in. It was the first day that it was overcast since we had arrived.
Read MoreOvernight the soreness in my left shoulder kicked back in causing me to wake up and move around to try alleviating the pain. I haven’t stretched it as extensively as I do when I’m home. Combine that with not working out and spending hours per day laying in the same position equals a recipe for soreness.
Read MoreI was able to hit a 5-day streak after getting another great night of sleep last night. My average this week has been 8.25 hours, a full hour extra than my goal when I’m at home. The sun felt extra strong today so we spent a lot of time going in and out of the water just to cool off.
Read MoreAround 3:30a I woke up sweating and didn’t hear the ceiling fans or air conditioning running. Using my phone as a flashlight I checked the AC panel only to find nothing displayed. I then checked a few of the electronics in the room. Nothing. I managed to find the circuit breaker but that didn’t help out either.
Read MoreI split the difference between the previous two nights, getting 9.5 hours of sleep. I was able to get 5.5 hours of sleep like I did on Saturday night. I really wish there was a push goal in the UP app since I’ve been crushing my 7 hour goal each night we’ve been here. Once we woke up we grabbed breakfast and then headed to the pool for the day (again). We took a couple of trips down the water slide before settling in for another day of laying in the sun.
Read MoreThough I didn’t manage 10 hours of sleep again last night, I did get 8.5 hours which is still more than I receive at home. My deep sleep returned back to 2.5 hours of sleep like usual but I still felt rested when I woke up. After finishing breakfast we headed to the pool. We jumped into the pool and went down the water slide a couple of times.
Read MoreI managed to sleep for almost 10 hours last night with nearly 5.5 hours of deep sleep. I usually average 7 hours of sleep with 2.5-3 hours of deep sleep per night so last night was great. When we’re on vacation by ourselves, one of our routines is to find delicious chocolate croissants for breakfast. This vacation is no different. Once we were dressed we ventured out of the hotel to find a chocolate croissant, a morning bun and a chorizo breakfast sandwich.
Read MoreWe didn’t fall asleep until late last night while trying to finish up last-minute packing. Couple that with an earlier-than-normal alarm this morning. Our flight was delayed by an hour this morning but we still made it down to Cabo without any issue.
Read MoreWhile waking up knowing that I had a visit at UCSF ahead of me, I was excited knowing that the end of the day would bring about a vacation with Laura. I was able to make it up to UCSF in under 1.5 hours which isn’t too bad given rush-hour traffic in the Bay Area. As I imagined, it felt odd to be there without Laura but I pushed forward.
Read MoreWe fell asleep later than usual last night since Laura was finishing cleaning and laundry so I was sleepier than usual when I woke up. I was able to sleep through the night without waking up which is always a bonus for me.
Read MoreWe usually sleep with the windows open because it’s much more comfortable feeling the breeze (and it’s cheaper too!). The street lights that bleed into the room when we have the window open don’t bother me because I wear a sleep mask at night to block out all light.
