Day 282: Skin On Fire and Dead Weights for Legs
Even though I slept for another nearly 8 hours last night, I woke up feeling exhausted. We joke at work about having a Synergy hangover but until you go through Synergy you never really understand it.
I know that it will wear off over the next few days but, as of now, I’m still yawning and yearning for more sleep.
I blocked off my calendar today so that I wouldn’t have any meetings. It was a day for me to focus on catching up on as much as possible.
Though I didn’t get completely caught up, I am in a much better position than I was when I started the day.
When I came home from I focused on stretching my shoulders and tackled one of the toughest Spartan WODs yet:
Warm-up
- Jump Rope – 3 minutes
- 10 Star Jumps
- 10 Wide Push ups
Main set
- 100 jumping jacks
- 30 burpees
- 30 box jumps
- 100 crunches
- 30 bodyweight squats
- 30 side kicks (each side)
- 100 high knees (50 each leg)
- 30 jumping lunges
- 30 squat jumps
Though the workout was called “Spartan 300” because of the 3 sets of 100 reps, it was actually a total of 480 reps.
By the time I finished my skin was on fire, my legs barely moved and I was nauseous while trying to drink my protein shake.
While I have had the skin-on-fire feeling before and felt like my legs were dead weight, I have always been able to drink my protein shake without any issues.
I’m thinking I’ll be pretty sore tomorrow and will need to ensure that I stretch plenty before doing the 400m repeats along with 10-30 burpees, as dictated by tomorrow’s WOD.
After finishing my workout, Laura and I crashed on the couch, caught up on the day and just watched TV, which is exactly what I still need as I try to fully recover from last week.
As I sat down to type tonight’s update I realized that it is under 3 months (83 days, to be exact) before I hit the year anniversary of my seizures, shattering my shoulders and discovering the brain tumor.
It has been a long road so far and one that won’t actively be over until around March of next year when my chemo treatment wraps up.
But, those bigger days such as August 10th (initial seizures), August 15th (right shoulder surgery), August 17th (left shoulder surgery) and September 11th (brain surgery) will always stick out boldly in my mind.
And over this period of time I have never missed a single day of documenting this journey.
I'm not how long I will keep up this daily journaling and when this journey may possibly turn into a book, but these are all things that constantly turn through my mind.
