Before falling asleep last night Laura gave me my birthday presents since it was already past midnight on the East coast. It was very sweet of her to get me the new Apple TV, Call of Duty Black Ops III and a new Burberry button-down. She’s always so great at picking out both things that I have said that I want and also other gifts that I wouldn’t have thought of to mention.
Read MoreThough I typically shoot for 7-8 hours of sleep per night, last night I was only able to barely get 5.5 hours of sleep. Fortunately I slept straight through the night without waking up once so that helped a bit. My lower body was even more sore when I woke up this morning than it was yesterday. Full delayed onset muscle soreness had set in.
Read MoreWhen I climbed out of bed this morning I immediately felt the soreness from yesterday’s legs workout. My quads, hamstrings, glutes and lower back were all sore and would continue to get even more sore as the day went on. My triceps were also sore from Friday’s workout though my upper back was doing ok.
Read MoreAfter a good night of rest, I headed out to the gym with one single goal: destroy my legs. Prior to this morning it had been three weeks since I last trained legs due to the GORUCK event followed by two weekends back in CT.
Read MoreSince I had to leave early for my appointments at UCSF I got right to it as soon as I woke up this morning. I didn’t want the day to be a complete wash. After having my MRI I met with our neuro-oncologist. She said that the scans showed that the surgical area continues to heal well. The tumor remnants are responding well to the chemo and are not attempting to form back together.
Read MoreI have been sleeping really well since getting back home. Not only is it nice being back in our own bed but we’ve also had the windows closed thus shutting out the traffic that we had to deal with hearing all Summer long.
Read MoreI only managed 1.5 hours of deep sleep last night as well as just barely missing my sleep goal. Fortunately it didn’t really affect me throughout the day. My body is still adjusting to being back on the West coast. The past two mornings I have woken up between 5:00-5:15a and just laid there until my alarm went off at 5:45a.
Read MoreIt felt great sleeping in our bed again for the first time in 10 days. While it’s always wonderful seeing family, coming home to your bed and your routines is always nice. With a very long to-do list, beyond processing my inboxes, I knew it would be an extremely busy day.
Read MoreAfter staying up late the previous night, I was able to get back to my 7+ hours of sleep last night getting a full additional hour of sleep. Before packing and taking off for the airport I ran to the gym quickly for a functional cardio and core workout.
Read MoreWhen going to bed last night I knew that my sleep goal streak would be broken since I stayed up late at my grandparents hotel and then back here at the house. What I didn’t think would happen would be that I would only get a little more than an hour of deep sleep.
Read MoreWhen I woke up this morning my back and triceps were already sore from yesterday’s workout. Originally I planned on waking up and going to the gym but, unfortunately, by the time I woke up it was too late to get there and back before we went to pick out my in-laws’ Christmas tree.
Read MoreAfter sleeping for another 8 hours last night, I had a quick breakfast consisting of apple-carrot bread with icing and cornbread (far from my usual breakfast!) and then hit the gym. Today’s workout was focused on my back and triceps.
Read MoreWith 450+ days of daily writing under my belt, it is interesting to go back and read my updates from a year ago. This time last year we were only 3.5 months separated from my initial seizures and 2.5 months separated from my brain surgery. It had been a miracle that we were able to make it out to CT since we were unsure if we’d be able to make the trip due to all of the medical issues.
Read MoreMy niece slept well overnight, only waking up twice during the night. My mother-in-law got up both times to help her fall back asleep while Laura jumped up to assist however needed. After enjoying a couple of slices of homemade apple-carrot bread with icing for breakfast (yum!), I headed over to try out a new gym (for me) up the street from my in-laws.
Read MoreIt was another good night of sleep with only waking up once even though I had one of those nightmares that just keeps pestering you even when you wake up to try fighting it off. After having breakfast I headed to the gym so that the day wouldn’t slip away on me without being able to go lift. I went to the gym that my in-laws use but tomorrow I will likely try a new gym that opened up a couple of years right up the street from them.
