Day 473: Functional Cardio, Core and Baking

My niece slept well overnight, only waking up twice during the night. My mother-in-law got up both times to help her fall back asleep while Laura jumped up to assist however needed.

After enjoying a couple of slices of homemade apple-carrot bread with icing for breakfast (yum!), I headed over to try out a new gym (for me) up the street from my in-laws.

They had enough equipment for me to get in a decent workout, though I would have been really happy if they had a rower or stair machine.

Right when I started using a box and was going to grab a kettlebell, they were getting ready to start a class with the equipment so I had to jump out. My workout turned out to be:

Functional Cardio

  • Farmer’s Walk - 4 x 1 minute (60 lb dumbbells)
  • Box Jumps - 2 x 15 reps
  • Burpees - 3 x 10 burpees

Core

  • Leg Lifts (on bench) - 3 x 15 reps
  • Overhead Weighted Decline Sit-Ups (25 lb plate) - 2 x 15 reps
  • Cable Oblique Twist - 3 x 15 reps (20 lbs)

I wasn’t feeling as strong as I have the other days this week. It doesn’t surprise me since I haven’t been eating as healthy as usual including my pre- and post-workout drinks/shakes.

Even though it wasn’t as strong of a workout as I would have hoped for, I’m still happy with what I accomplished. And my goal for this week was just to get workouts in, not make massive improvements.

The rest of the day was spent either running to the grocery store (again!), chasing my niece around or baking for tomorrow.

It was a busy day especially since my niece took two multi-hour naps while my mother-in-law slowly rocked her.

I’m looking forward to seeing our family tomorrow as everyone gathers here to enjoy a day of amazing food, laughter and watching football. It is also a nice culmination to all of the work that we’ve been doing this week.
