Day 169: Flying Back Home

Since we didn’t fall asleep until around 2:15a and had to get up at 6:30a I was only able to sleep for 4.25 hours. After getting ready we said our goodbyes and headed off to JFK for our flight back to SFO. Though the flight to JFK from UVF didn’t seem so long, the flight to SFO felt like it lasted forever. I’m guessing that is due to how tired I am getting around 50% of the sleep I’m used to.

Day 167: Our Final Day of Sailing

I slept well last night...about as well as you can sleep on a sailboat but it was still decent sleep. My cold has continued to go away so I was able to actually breath through my nose last night. Hurting shoulders, not being able to breath through your nose, a rocking boat and a hard mattress do not make for great sleeping conditions.

Day 165: Going Snorkeling

It was hard to sleep last night between coughing, the boat rocking and the sound of the ropes along the mooring ball. It was windy last night thus causing the additional rocking and rope noise. If you've never been on a boat that is moored or anchored when it is windy it can be an interesting experience of slowly spinning around.

Day 164: Publishing from My Phone Again

I made it to sleep earlier than the night before but it was a hard night of sleeping for me. It started to rain a couple of times throughout the night and I was laying right under our open hatch until we closed it. When I woke up I started feeling increasingly worse throughout the day.  I have had a scratchy throat since landing here but today a slight cough has started.

Day 163: Sailing to Marigot Bay

The slight rocking of the boat made for great sleeping conditions last night. But, unfortunately, I woke up several times throughout the night. Though I’m not feeling pain in my shoulders anymore when I roll onto my sides at home, I am waking up anytime it happens on the boat. That coupled with not making it to sleep until around midnight meant only getting 5.5 hours of interrupted sleep.

Day 161: 20 Hours of Travel

Last night was rougher than I anticipated even with my sleep mask and taking a sleeping pill due to turbulence that lasted the majority of the flight. My UP 24 band says that I got around 3.5 hours of sleep but I really think it was more like 2.5 hours. We landed in NYC around 5:30a ET before boarding our flight to St. Lucia for a 8:30a ET flight.

Day 160: And It's Off to St. Lucia

It was an early start to the morning so that I could get to the airport on time. I fell asleep before I could set my UP band but figure that I got around 6 hours of sleep. I hadn’t really thought of it when I traveled to Las Vegas but my checked bag weighed 32.5 pounds. I just grabbed it like normal when it was time to leave on Monday. When walking through the hotel today I could feel a slight tweak in my left shoulder. But, a few minutes after checking my bag at the airport the feeling had gone away.

Day 158: Going Around a Race Track at 165 MPH

Today was another early start to the day but I was still able to get around 6.5 hours of sleep. Not quite what my goal is but given that I’m in Las Vegas, I’ll take it. The conference proved to be another long day of running around with the daily grind plus additional last-minute requests. It is what I thrive on but still can take a lot of me by the end of the day and week.

Day 157: Not Being Able to Wear a Suit Jacket

While I knew that I wouldn’t hit my goal of 7 hours of sleep per night being in Vegas due to the demands of the week, I was happy to get just shy of 6.5 hours last night. Waking up in a hotel room is always hard for me. When I’m at home I usually bounce out of bed without much issue but when I sleep in a hotel room I have to force myself awake. Maybe it is the black-out curtains or complete silence…who knows.
