Day 382: A Simple But Hard Workout

The third night seemed to be charm. I only woke up once during the night, which is normal for me, and nailed my sleeping goal at exactly 7 hours.

I had hours worth of back-to-back meetings before lunch along with a number of additional priorities being added that my team has already started executing on before the day ended.

It was nice to have launch with a friend and colleague who works at our Ft. Lauderdale campus but who is in town this week for meetings.

I shot home for a workout that looked simple on the surface but turned out to be harder than I expected it to be:

Warm-up

  • Dynamic warm up
  • Cycle - 5 minutes

Main set

  • Jump rope 10 minutes
  • 15 burpees
  • 15 walking lunges, each leg
  • 15 push-ups
  • 15 squats w/15 lb dumbbells
  • Elliptical - 20 minutes

Cool Down

  • Stretch

I am not used to nor do I really enjoy cycling and so that is why I have been forcing myself to do it as my cardio warmup for the past few days.

I also have never jumped rope consistently for 10 minutes, even prior to my injuries. I have done plenty of tabata-style rounds of rope that may have added up to 10 minutes but that always included rounds of rest time.

My ankle and shin held up well and didn’t give me any issues. I was having soreness in the arches of my feet while doing the rope but that is just normal due to the movement of the exercise.

Two days in a row I am closing out a weekday with 12,000+ steps thanks to my cardio sessions.

While that is nice, it will be good to have a rest day tomorrow so that I don’t stress that tendon or whatever was wrong in my leg.

I did take time to use my foam roller tonight and do some targeted mobility work on trouble spots.

Laura ended up getting stuck at her office late while on a call so we decided to shift our date night to tonight and went out for boneless wings and beer, which is always nice to do.
