Day 345: Back into the Lab

I slept well overnight but had trouble falling asleep so I was only able to get 6.75 hours of sleep. What made me happy, though, was that I only woke up once during the night similar to the night before.

I had a crazy day of back-to-back meetings from 9:30a-4:00p including a lunch for a new member of our team who’s first day was today.

This entire week will be non-stop with meetings until Friday when I finally get some larger blocks of time to get project work done.

Throughout the day several people stopped by my office to talk about the Spartan Race. The more I talk about it either through my daily updates or in-person the more I think about small weaknesses that I want to improve upon for my next race.

I also received many additional emails from friends including one from a dear friend asking when I’m going to start writing the Built Unstoppable book. More to come on that soon.

As the day went on I was feeling less and less sore so I decided to hit up the gym. I originally thought I would need to take several days off but it made me happy to get right back to it with only a single day off.

I decided that I wanted to complete a different workout than what Spartan had posted therefore I completed a resistance band workout that I last tried in November as my first full workout

The workout was adapted from Men’s Fitness with additional exercises added in to target my abs:

3 rounds with 30 seconds rest between rounds

  1. Band-thruster - 10-15 repetitions
  2. Bentover Row - 15 repetitions
  3. Resisted Pushup - 5 repetitions (goal: 10-15 reps)
  4. Reverse Flye - 15 repetitions
  5. Monster Walk - 10 repetitions (each direction)
  6. Squat to Curl - 15 repetitions
  7. Russian Twists - 15 repetitions
  8. Toe touches - 15 repetitions
  9. Planks - 1 min

When I completed the workout in November I was only able to use the 2-4 lb resistance band and could only complete 5 repetitions for each round of pushups and that was without any resistance band.

This time I used the 15-20 lb band for every exercise except for the reverse flyes which I used the 12-15 lb band. I was also able to complete all 15 pushups per round using the 15-20 lb band.

I was completely drenched in sweat and really happy with my progress since November.

Tonight we have continued binge-watching The Office while relaxing. We started it from Season 1 on Friday night and are enjoying running through all of the episodes.
