Day 153: Last Minute Planning Before Traveling

After not sleeping well the previous night I crashed hard last night. I didn’t wake up once throughout the night, getting 8+ hours of sleep with around 4.5 hours of that being deep sleep. Today turned into a crazy day filled with last-minute meetings and event prep. It was another day of back-to-backs before traveling on Monday. There is a lot of planning and coordinating that goes into ensuring that an event like next week’s conference is successful.

Day 151: Checking in with My Physical Therapist

Even though I got under 3 hours of deep sleep I was still able to get north of 7 hours of overall sleep. For the first time in a long while I woke up in the middle of the night. After an early meeting we took some time to finalize more of our move with the leasing office. There was back and forth on different forms, proof of income and other basic paperwork. We now have the lease to sign which I tried doing today but kept getting an error while trying to digitally sign after a specific page.

Day 150: Finding a New Apartment

It was nice getting north of 8 hours of sleep last night, hitting another 5-day streak this morning. I have my UP app goal set at 7 hours so when I mention hitting new streaks it is all based on whether I received a minimum of 7 hours. Tuesdays are a meeting heavy day for me. I was in back-to-back meetings from 8:30a-12:30p before I finally had a chance to take a breath.

Day 148: The Passing of Stuart Scott

After taking time to read before falling asleep I was able to get 7.75 hours of sleep last night. If it wasn’t for a few nights ago I would likely be up to a 10-day streak by now. When I woke up I learned that Stuart Scott from ESPN had passed away at 49 years old from his battle with cancer. Usually when celebrities pass away it doesn’t affect me but Stuart Scott’s death was like a punch in the gut for me.

My Three Words for 2015

Many people are making New Year’s resolutions that will, unfortunately, fall by the wayside as soon as life picks back up to full speed. I don’t set resolutions at the start of each year. Instead I set a number of achievable and push goals, each with a next action associated with them. Along with setting achievable and push goals, for the last several years I have used Chris Brogan's three words framework that help guide the year. My three words for 2015 are: Determined, Invest and Challenge.

Day 143: Looking Back

Before falling asleep last night I went through the photos, emails, messages and comments from the night I went into the hospital through those initial weeks post-brain surgery. I have saved all of them so that I can look back at them often. As I went through everything I couldn’t help but be brought to tears by how caring and thoughtful everyone was. I am fortunate and thankful to have such a group of friends, family, colleagues and community who so quickly mobilized to support us through everything.

Day 142: A Bad Dream of Being Back in the Hospital

I was able to get another 8 hours of sleep last night though it was another night of getting less than 3 hours of deep sleep. I had a bad dream that I had woken up in the hospital again. It took a while for me to realize that I was at home in bed when I woke up and hadn’t been back to the hospital. It was the first morning in a while that I woke up without feeling in my right hand. When I first came home from the hospital this was a nightly occurrence but had slowly gone away.

Day 140: Attending Our First Ballet and Realizing Human Potential

Though we got caught up watching a TV show last night and didn’t end up going to bed until after 11:00p I was still able to get 7+ hours of sleep last night. It is an important goal of mine as we head into 2015 to continue prioritizing sleep, maintaining a minimum of 7 hours of sleep per night. I won’t always be able to achieve that goal on a daily basis but will continue prioritizing it in my life.
