Day 94: My First Full Workout

Today started out with a visit to the orthopedic surgeon. As with all visits to see him, we took x-rays to see how my shoulders are healing. After reviewing the x-rays and doing a few tests with me, he said that my shoulders have healed anatomically. There is some light calcification in one of my shoulders, potentially from my brain surgery, but other than that he is happy with how my shoulders are progressing.

Day 93: My First Full Day Back at Work

Though I slept an hour less than the previous night even with going for such a long walk yesterday, I woke up feeling great. While my sleep has mostly stabilized, I am still waking up an average of a 2-3 times per night and having restless moments throughout the night. In many ways I have become used to it so it isn’t affecting me as much but I continue to do everything I can to achieve optimal sleep while dealing with some of the issues with recovering.

Day 92: Waking Up Limping

Last night was far better than previous nights. I slept through the majority of the night before I woke up a couple times between 4:00-6:00a. When I climbed out of bed for the day my entire lower body was sore from yesterday’s run so I decided not to do the resistance band workout I was planning.

Day 91: Going Out for My First Run

It was another restless night for me waking up several times throughout the night before finally getting out of bed at 6:00a. While Laura slept I decided that today would be the first day after my injuries that I would try going for a run. I laced up a pair of Nike running sneakers that my buddy, Ben Samples, had sent me while I was in the hospital, took my pre-workout drink, fired up my playlist and headed out.

Day 90: Getting My License Back

Since I fell asleep by around 9:15p last night, I ended up getting 8.5 hours of sleep even though I woke up 30 minutes earlier than usual. It felt good to sleep that long even with waking up several times throughout the night. When I stepped out of bed I nearly fell over. Welcome delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS)! As is typical for me, two days after performing the 60 squat to curls my quads were touch sore.

Day 89: An Exhausting Day of Driving

After staying up a bit later than planned and having an early alarm set this morning, I only slept for 6 hours with 2.5 hours of that being deep sleep. Though I only woke up once during the night, I felt restless throughout the night. When I woke up and stepped out of bed my quads were already sore from the squat to curls from yesterday. It didn’t even take the normal two days. Throughout the day my legs continued to get more sore.

Day 86: Putting on a Zip-Up Hoodie By Myself

I missed 7 hours of sleep last night by only 4 minutes. Though that’s not terrible, it was an up and down night with me waking up 3-4 times and waking up at least 15 minutes before the alarm went off. I also woke up with my sleep mask wrapped around my hand. I’m not sure when or how that happened but that didn’t help much once the sun started shining in extra early due to the time change.

Day 85: Time Change and Walking Sasha

Though I slept for 7+ hours last night, the time change messed with my body. I woke up at 4:50a thinking that it was 5:50a. Since I have been waking up around 6:30a I figured that I’d just stay up until I realized what time it really was. I went back to bed and fell asleep for another hour though I only got approximately 8 minutes of deep sleep. I finally crawled out of bed right after 6:00a.

Day 83: A Rainy and Busy Friday

It felt good to get back to deeper sleep last night with 4.5 hours of deep sleep and nearly 8 hours overall. The light rain helped with sleep early this morning but that quickly became a windy, chilly, dark morning with on/off again torrential rain. Since my grandparents had such an early flight this morning we didn’t plan on seeing them today. It was really nice to have them here for a few days and am glad that we were able to spend time with them.

Day 81: The Carb Tour Continues

After dipping (barely) below 7 hours of sleep last night I was able to get 8.25 hours last night, along with more deep sleep. I shifted my day around to give me a meeting-free morning so that I could focus on a few big rocks that I needed to just turn up music and crash through. I found a nice groove and was able to make meaningful progress.

Day 80: Spending the Evening with My Grandparents

Eventually the sleep streak had to end which it did last night. Though I only missed my 7 hour goal by 4 minutes, I was under 3 hours of deep sleep. That lack of deep sleep would cause me to drag through most of the day. Though, with my current schedule, I would typically go to the gym later in the day, today I knocked it out mid-morning since my grandparents were coming into town.
