Turning Nothing Into Something
Over the course of our lives we’ll all be presented with opportunities to turn nothing into something. It could something as simple as deciding that you want to get healthier and signing up for a gym membership. It’s all about the choices that we make.
These choices doesn’t always to be major, life-altering decisions, though sometimes they are.
David Goggins, someone that I take a lot of inspiration from, has accomplished more physically than many of us could dream of. It’s not that it’s impossible for us, it’s because he became insanely focused that he could tackle them. Though Navy SEAL training is 6 months long, including Hell Week, he had to go through 18 months of SEAL training before graduating.
While I haven’t gone through SEAL training and certainly haven’t accomplished the type of fitness records that David Goggins has achieved, I do have experience growing up below the poverty line in a ghetto where accomplishing high school was a far-fetched idea.
Going from there to earning dual Bachelor’s degrees, becoming one of the first 25 people in the country to ever earn a Master’s in Homeland Security, and, then, as many know, going through my gran mal seizures, shoulder and brain surgeries, and chemo to then accomplishing my Spartan Trifecta, including the Sparta World Championships in 2017.
Along the way I’ve been counted out and the odds have been stacked against me at times every time that a challenge like that has presented itself, I have, time and time again, defied those odds. One of the key ways that I have done that is by staying completely focused on what I want to accomplish and not allowing anyone distract me from me.
Goggins often discusses needing to go through the pain and suffering to find your true self while holding yourself accountable to achieve goals, whatever they may be. To me, that is training yourself to become unstoppable.
While Goggins has done numerous interviews, this short clip of a speaking engagement stands out for me.
If you haven’t read Goggins book “Can’t Hurt Me” then I highly recommend it. It’ll change your way of thinking and inspire you to accomplish more than you can ever believe is possible.
