Day 490: Trying Alternating 1-Arm Sumo Deadlifts
You know those nights where you sleep so lightly that you wake up every time you shift around? Yeah, that was how my night was last night.
When I woke up I felt as though I had gotten a good night of rest but I still tossed and turned all night long.
Since Sasha had a vet appointment this morning, I had to rush over to the gym to get in my legs workout. Here is what my workout turned out to be:
- Kettlebell Goblet Squat - 1 x 12 reps (20 kg), 3 x 8 reps (36 kg)
- Squat Press - 3 x 10 reps (360 lbs, 360 lbs, 450 lbs)
- Alternating 1-Arm Sumo Deadlifts - 5 min AMRAP (20 kg kettlebell)
- Seated Calf Raise - 1 x 15 reps (90 lbs), 2 x 15 reps (115 lbs)
I had to cut leg curls and lunges from my workout so that I could get back home but I was happy with the increase in squat press. Last week I had done 270 lbs for the first set but this week I started with 360 lbs.
I also decided to try doing a 5 minute AMRAP (as many reps as possible) of alternating 1-arm sumo deadlifts after seeing an Instagram video from Men’s Health. I was able to complete a total of 60 reps (30/side) in the 5 minutes.
After bringing Sasha back home from her vet appointment I headed out to finish up my Christmas shopping for Laura. Fortunately I made it to the mall before the big crowds arrived. Though it was really busy by the time I left, entire levels of the parking garage were empty when I got there.
Tonight we went out to dinner to celebrate my birthday. Laura chose a restaurant called The Basin in Saratoga. Not only was the food ah-ma-zing but it was our first time exploring Saratoga which is a really cute town especially when it’s all lit up at night.
It was a great day and a fun night - a perfect way to spend a Saturday during the holiday season.
