Day 300: Getting Poked Three Times

My morning started out with my second blood test this week. Typically the phlebotomist that I usually have is able to hit my vein on the first try. But, today it took 3 pokes in 3 different veins to finally have the blood drawn that was needed.

The second blood test of the week is always the deeper test. The first test is just a CBC but the second one includes liver function and other tests.

Now we wait to hear the results of the tests to see if I’m cleared to start the next round of chemo on Monday.

Usually I work from home on Fridays but since the lab is halfway to my office I decided to go in for the morning. With no meetings and a completely quiet floor, this morning I focused on closing out the week strong.

I had a meeting at Google that took up the afternoon before shooting home for my workout.

Warm-up

Dynamic warm-up – 3 movements x 2 at 25 yards each.

Main set

  • 100 meter sprint. Repeat 3x.
  • Then, run 2x400m. Walk 3-5 minutes between reps.

I used the elliptical to accomplish the workout instead of running on the treadmill.

The main set only took 20 minutes but left me trying to catch my breath and drenched in sweat - just how I like my workouts.

The gym was 89 degrees when I first walked in. Though I really wanted to crank the AC I chose, again, to workout in the heat to continue conditioning my body in case it is hot at AT&T Park when I run the Spartan Sprint.

After my workout I worked on some mobility exercises to help open my hips and stretch out my quads which were tight.

We’re planning on spending the afternoon and evening in San Francisco tomorrow to celebrate our anniversary so Laura gave me my gifts and we enjoyed bubbles while catching up on episodes of Entourage.

It’s crazy to think that today is the 300th day since that first night and also that I have documented it every single day.

I am often asked how long I will keep up the daily journal entries. As of now my goal is to try keeping it up until my final night of chemo at which time I have other plans that I will hopefully have in motion by then.

I thank each one of you for continuing to read, comment, share your stories and take inspiration from this journey - I really appreciate it.
