Day 268: Work Craziness and The Spartan 150

Though I just barely got it with 7:09 hours of sleep last night, I hit a 21-day streak for only the second time in 1.5 years of using my UP24 band.

I popped right out of bed this morning and hustled out the door so that I could stop to get my blood work done before heading into my office.

It was quick and relatively painless, as usual. Either that, or I’ve just become so used to it since I now get blood work done twice per month and have had numerous IVs and shots over the last 9 months.

The work day turned into an insane blur which was exactly what I expected it to be. Two of the meetings that were scheduled were pushed off while another 3-4 cropped up during the day.

Along with the back-to-back meetings, there were several requests that came in throughout the day, all of which either had to be dealt with immediately, within the next 24-48 hours or before we get to Orlando on Sunday.

Such is my life (as well as many others) the week before Synergy. It takes a massive army to pull the event off with everyone working a lot of hours right through until the end of the event.

And hence why I typically take a vacation right after Synergy is over. Whereas last year we went away right after Synergy for our 5 year wedding anniversary, this year we’re going to Cabo a few weeks later at the end of June.

When I got home from my office I had to deal with another call and a couple of emails/requests before heading to the gym for, what was affectionately called, The Spartan 150 - a completely new WOD for me:

Warm Up

  • Jump Rope – 2 minutes
  • 10 – Glute Kickbacks
  • 10 – Jumping Lunges
  • 10 – Star Jumps

Main Set

  • 150 jumping jacks
  • 15 burpees
  • 15 pull-ups
  • 15 box jumps
  • 15 sandbag squat-throws
  • 50 crunches
  • 50 bodyweight squats
  • 50 jumping lunges
  • Run 1.5 miles

I was able to accomplish the entire workout in around 50 minutes, including warm-up and cool-down. I had to split up the band-assisted pull-ups with 7 at first then after finishing the jumping lunges tackling the other 8 pull-ups.

I am fully expecting my legs to be like lead weights tomorrow since I have never done that many jumping lunges, never mind along with all of the burpees, squats and other exercises.

Once I came home from the gym I had to jump back on my laptop for another couple hours worth of work, just to try keeping everything in-line as we roll into Synergy.

I saw that the blood work results have already come back and, from what I can tell, everything looks normal. But, I’ll wait for the neuro-oncology nursing team to call me tomorrow or Wednesday with the all-clear to start my chemo treatment on Wednesday night.
