Day 263: Training Both My Mind and My Body
When I woke up this morning I had a terrible knot in my lower back, probably from my workout yesterday.
Today I spent the entire day in a values-driven leadership training course.
It’s not often that I’m able to take a break for training and there is never a great time for it but it is important.
Tomorrow I will be in the training again through mid-afternoon before getting a couple of hours back in my office for meetings and to get some work done.
I ended up telling my story a couple of times today to the other team members who were taking the course.
One of my friends was sitting there and reiterated how positive we have been throughout this journey.
I know that we have kept a positive attitude throughout this journey but I’d hope that anyone would be focused on their recovery and not just wallow in their sorrows.
During the training I received an email from our Facilities team that they had set up my Varidesk. I’m excited to be able to start using it now both at work and at home.
The training ended a bit early so I was able to get home for today’s WOD:
Warm-up:
- Jump Rope – 3 minutes
- 10 Isometric Wipers
- 10 Double Leg Butt Kicks
Main set:
- Hike a steep hill carrying a log, weight, rock, half-filled bucket of water, or sandbag. Hike back down. This should take about 10 minutes round trip.
- Run/jog/walk the same hill.
- Then:
- 10 burpees
- 15 squats
- Hang from a low branch for 30 seconds or as long as possible, until you accumulate 3 minutes of hanging.
- Rest 2 minutes
- Jog a flat trail or road for 20 minutes.
Since there isn't a strong enough branch on the trees near our place, I decided to use the gym for my workout instead of the hill nearby. And I used a 12 lb medicine ball instead of a log, etc.
Unfortunately I didn’t notice the 20 minute jog until I was finished with my workout.
Even though I made substitutions and didn’t do the jog, I was still soaked in sweat and extremely tired by the end of it.
The one part of the workout that surprised me was accumulating 3 minutes of hanging from the pull-up bar.
It sounds like such a short period of time and not as hard as it really was but I managed to get through it.
I’m excited to go see The Avengers: Age of Ultron tomorrow night with Laura. We don’t usually go see movies on a Thursday but made exceptions for Furious 7 and Avengers because of how much we were/are looking forward to the movies.
