Day 202: A Visit to the Fertility Clinic

After a long week I was exhausted last night so crashed quickly and slept in an extra hour before heading to the gym.

I did basic stretches to loosen up my shoulders including hanging from the pull-up bar. Once my shoulders were mostly warmed up I then jumped in to, basically, the same back and shoulders workout that I’ve done the past few weeks.

Back

- Seated Rows: 4 sets x 12 reps (#79, #91, #104, #116)
- Lat Pull Downs: 4 sets x 12 reps (#115, #135, #155, #155)

Shoulders

Superset

- Alternating Dumbbell Front Raises: 4 sets x 15 reps (#7.5 dumbbells)
- Alternating Dumbbell Side Raises: 4 sets x 15 reps (#7.5 dumbbells)

- Upright Rows: 25 reps x #25

I was happy that on every set with the exception of the last set of lat pull downs I was able to increase the amount of weight by one plate.

When I tried increasing the weight on front and side raises my shoulders weren’t too happy with that decision. I backed down the weight to the same #7.5 dumbbells that I have been using.

The first set of side raises caused pain in my left shoulder but after pushing through that first set both shoulders felt good.

Instead of doing shrugs this week I switched it up to upright rows. I only did a single set of high reps but it was a nice finisher.

I got settled for the morning and cranked through work for a couple of hours before having to start the 45-50+ mile trek to UCSF.

Without any meetings this morning it gave me a chance to plow through a number of smaller to-dos that I wanted to bang out.

The visit to the fertility clinic was everything you can assume it to be.

We won’t know the results until Monday. If it is a viable sample then it will be sent for cryopreservation for up to 5 years.

They typically recommend providing two or more samples but due to the tight timeline we’re under with chemo starting on March 9th we’re going to keep our fingers crossed that the one sample will be viable and enough.

When we got home from UCSF we both jumped back into work for a while before calling it a day.

Tonight we watched a movie…the same one we watched for our first date night when we were released from the hospital. I’m looking forward to the weekend before spending the day at UCSF on Monday.
