Day 171: Running My First 5K

Ever wake up in the middle of the night wondering where you are? That’s what happened to me last night as a result of all of the recent travel. I had no clue where I was until it dawned on me that I was in Santa Barbara.

This morning started with running my first 5K. It was a goal of mine for this year and didn’t realize that I would be able to check it off of my list so early on.

It’s only slightly over 3 miles which I can easily run but after not working out for 2 weeks it certainly proved to be a test.

I set a PR for my 3 mile run coming in at an average of 8.6 minutes per mile. My goal was to run the 5K with an average of 10 minutes per mile since I hadn’t had a chance to run lately so to set a PR made me happy.

Throughout the run my shoulders felt strong even when I focused on allowing them to bounce in an effort to help them heal further.

Several people were surprised to see me running a 5K due to my shoulder injuries but said they were encouraged and inspired by it.

After cooling down I came back upstairs to my room for mobilization work. I focused on cleaning up my t-spine while also working on my overhead shoulder mobility.

Today turned into a long and busy day filled with prepping for a group presentation tomorrow, a meeting and working through a large project that took up every free minute that wasn’t spent at the opening keynote for the sales kickoff.

Since it was my first time back to Santa Barbara since my injuries it was nice to see many friends and colleagues. Everyone that I saw asked how I was feeling and told me that they were glad to see me.

Tonight a few of us snuck away for a quiet dinner which was really nice especially since tomorrow will be another busy day.

Tomorrow, in addition to many other things happening, I have a group presentation that we will have to present 4 times in a row plus a number of other things happening.
