Day 104: Flying Back East
Today started at the same time (2:30a) as we went to bed on Tuesday night. That really screwed with our bodies.
We left for the airport around 3:30a. As we were driving to the airport there was a part of me that was worried that flying would be uncomfortable.
Throughout the entire process I didn’t experience any pain outside of the normal discomforts that I have learned to live with. I couldn’t lift any of our luggage so that made it a bit difficult on Laura.
Once we boarded the plane we were delayed for just shy of 2 hours. They were having a fuel balancing issue...whatever that means.
We had an uneventful flight to Chicago but once we landed we tried running for our gate. Though we were late landing in Chicago, our flight from Chicago was also late in departing.
After running between terminals in Chicago we narrowly missed our connecting flight. That was the first time that I ever missed a connecting flight (that I can remember). It also didn’t feel great on my shoulders trying to hustle across the airport.
United ended up booking us on an American Airlines flight that ensured we saw all of O’Hare by the time we were done walking around the airport.
Much like our flight to Chicago, our flight to Hartford was uneventful. Somehow our luggage had made it on the earlier flight that we missed, even though the gate was closed when we made it over there.
Laura’s mom picked us up from the airport and brought us back to their house. It was really nice to see my father-in-law since the last time he saw me was right after the brain surgery.
My mother-in-law had a delectable meal planned for us tonight including a chocolate pudding pie with a graham cracker crust - one of my favorites.
We’re now just hanging out, relaxing and chatting after a very long day of travel across the country.
My shoulders feel better than they have over the last two days as I recover from the seizure.
I’m looking forward to spending the next 9 days with family and friends back in Connecticut. Only Laura’s parents have seen me since this journey began for us so it will be nice to see everyone.
