Day 52: No More Slings

Last night I slept without the slings again. I slept really well, getting 5.5 hours of deep sleep, according to my UP24, which is more than I was getting on average before my injuries. When I woke up twice during the night Laura did not even wake up which made me happy. For almost two months she has been waking up several times per night to help me. As I have become more independent again that has lessened by the day.

Day 51: Sleeping Without Slings and Staples Removal

I woke up four times throughout the night which is more than I have in a few weeks. I think it was because there was a colder breeze coming through our sliding glass door. It was also the first night that I tried sleeping without my slings. I figured it was only two more nights before losing them anyway. I do not roll in the middle of the night so I was confident that I would stay on my back (which I did).

Day 46: Podcasts, Yoga and Saying Goodbye

With Laura and her mom cleaning until late last night, Laura and I didn’t fall asleep until after taking my 12:15a pain meds. That is the latest that either of us have stayed up in months, even before this entire journey started. It caused the rest of the night to feel “off” since my body has become programmed to the times that I have to wake up for pain meds throughout the night.

Day 43: Becoming Twitchy

After publishing my journal entry last night I stumbled upon the “On the Run” HBO special which was nice to watch for a bit before bed. With everything going on, it had completely slipped my mind that it was on. As I settled in to fall asleep my shoulders were sore from all of yesterday’s activity but the output was far greater than the soreness.

Day 42: The Day of Firsts

Today shall be summed as the day of firsts. Overnight I wanted to try using the bathroom by myself for the first time. It is far easier to try during the night since I could wear only boxers to bed instead of also wearing basketball shorts, as I have, which are hard for me to put pressure on to pull down.
