Leaving a Mark
As many people know, my favorite artist of all-time is Jay-Z. From selling albums out of his trunk to 25 years later having a business conglomerate that has made him hip-hop’s first billionaire.
He has sold over 50 million albums and 75 million singles, he has won 22 Grammys which is the most by a rapper, and holds the record for number-one singles by a solo artist on the Billboard 200 with 14. He has achieved numerous other musical achievements as well throughout his career as well.
Over the course of his career he has owned, has built and sold, or currently owns stakes in several companies from record companies to a clothing and sneaker brand, a sports bar, Barclays Center, the Brooklyn Nets, Tidal, Arsenal B.C., Roc Nation Sports, Armand de Brignac (aka “Ace of Spades”) champagne, and investments in a number of other brands.
During his song “Forever Young” he had my favorite quote of all-time and one that I try living my life by:
For me, I believe that this is a combination of the gifts, choices, and opportunities that I have been given and developed throughout my life. I try using this to make the best decisions to guide my life so that I can achieve my goal of leaving that mark that no one can erase (positively, of course).
If this quote resonates with you, how are you ensuring that you’re leaving that same mark? What steps are taking right now?
