Day 496: Star Wars and 500 Kettlebell Swings

Even though we got home from dinner a bit later than usual and I woke up at my normal (early) time, I still managed to hit my sleep goal last night.

I hardly ever go into my office on Fridays but headed in this morning for our holiday party. Traffic was so light that I made it there in only 35 minutes instead of the usual 45-60+ minutes that it usually takes me.

We went to see the new Star Wars movie for our holiday party. Whether you’re a Star Wars fan or not, it is an incredible movie. J.J. Abrams did a fantastic job with the movie.

I am very much looking forward to seeing it again with Laura in the next couple of weeks. We may go see it at a true dome IMAX theater to experience it with the wrap-around screen.

After the movie I headed to the gym for Day 1 of the 10,000 kettlebell swings challenge. This is what the routine looks like:

  • 10 swings (30-60 sec rest)
  • 15 swings (30-60 sec rest)
  • 25 swings (30-60 sec rest)
  • 50 swings (3 mins rest)
  • x 5 rounds

I used a 18 kg kettlebell and completed the 500 reps workout in 42:11. I was nearly dead by the end of it, collapsing on the mat following the final swing.

I plan on increasing to a 20 kg kettlebell for the next workout. The 18 kg kettlebell was hard but I want to push myself even harder, with a goal of working up to a 24 kg kettlebell which is the standard listed in the challenge.

While I’m confident that I could accomplish the challenge by myself, I am doing it with a few friends so that we’re keeping each other accountable.

The challenge will roughly be 2 days on followed by 1 day off. I say “roughly by” because I will need to make adjustments for holidays and travel.

Of course I decided to start the challenge during the holidays and will be traveling for three nights during the final scheduled week.

Tonight we’re watching the Warriors game for a little while before we watch a movie to start our weekend.
