Day 480: Beating My 6k Row Time By 18 Seconds

I only managed 1.5 hours of deep sleep last night as well as just barely missing my sleep goal. Fortunately it didn’t really affect me throughout the day.

My body is still adjusting to being back on the West coast. The past two mornings I have woken up between 5:00-5:15a and just laid there until my alarm went off at 5:45a.

It was another day of back-to-back meetings as I still try catching up after our holiday vacation. However, I did take a break at lunchtime to volunteer with Stop Hunger Now for 45 minutes in between meetings since they were on our campus for a couple of hours.

At the end of the day we aired Star Wars IV in our conference center. For our holiday party this year our campus is going to see the new Star Wars movie on December 18th. Leading up to the movie we are showing the previous Star Wars movies at the end of the day every Wednesday.

Though I still had work to do, it was fun to watch the first 45 minutes of the movie while multi-tasking before I changed to take off for the gym.

Tonight I wanted to challenge myself to beat the 6k row time that a friend of mine had posted which had beaten my previous best.

I nearly died trying to accomplish it but I ended up crossing the 6k mark in 25:43, an 18 second improvement over my previous best and beating my friend’s time by 12 seconds.

I had to sit there for several minutes before I tried walking and then I had to limp over to get paper towels to clean the machine.

After recovering somewhat I mustered strength to turn my attention to my core:

  • Exercise Ball Crunches - 3 x 15 reps (w/10 lb plate)
  • Standing Oblique Twists - 3 x 15 reps (w/12 lb ball)

I have spent the evening catching up on highlights from the Warriors game and then watching a 90-minute special about their championship run last season.

I’m looking forward to having a bit more time for project work tomorrow after a busy past couple of days filled with meetings.
