Day 478: Flying Back to California

After staying up late the previous night, I was able to get back to my 7+ hours of sleep last night getting a full additional hour of sleep.

Before packing and taking off for the airport I ran to the gym quickly for a functional cardio and core workout.

Cardio

  • Box Jumps - 15 reps
  • Kettlebells Swings - 25 reps (35 lbs)
  • x 2 sets
  • Battle Ropes - 8 rounds (20 secs work/10 secs rest)

Core

  • Rope Crunches - 3 x 15 reps (80 lbs)
  • Standing Oblique Crunches - 3 x 15 reps (45 lb plate)

I wanted to do an additional one to two sets of the box jumps and kettlebell swing combo but the area that I had to workout on was either a wood or laminate floor so the box kept slipping when I would jump down.

After having it slip too far forward on one of the jumps I decided two sets was all that I wanted to risk. Adding in the battle ropes tabata was a good additional element to exhaust my body.

I was running on a compressed schedule this morning so had to run through my core workout quickly.

I was happy that I was able to get in a workout before leaving for the airport. In all I worked out six out of the 10 days that we were there. With one of those days being my typical rest day, I only missed three workouts which isn’t too bad.

My sister-in-law’s boyfriend drove us and my mother-in-law down to EWR. Since my mother-in-law was taking off for a vacation from EWR as well we were able to spend some extra time with her before our flight.

Instead of starting to catch up during the flight, I wanted to soak up the last bits of vacation so I ran through Entourage, Spy and Southpaw during our flight. All were movies that I hadn’t seen yet but were on my list to watch.

One of my favorite parts of vacation is walking in the door and having Sasha tackle me. It always brings a big smile to my face.

The next few weeks are going to be extremely busy with multiple multi-day planning meetings, end of quarter and end of year reviews and everything else that goes into closing out the year. It all starts tomorrow with my first day back in the office.
