Day 465: Remembering My Mom
Last night got a bit away from me so I ended up crashing later than usual thus breaking my streak of hitting my sleep goal. Ah well, it was due to end eventually.
Besides a busy day at work filled with a financial analyst call and several announcements, it was also a day of remembrance for me.
Today would have been my mom’s 58th birthday however I lost her 15.5 years ago when she died of a heart attack after losing a long battle with Lupus.
The last words that we ever said to each other were “I love you” even though we hadn’t been getting along earlier in the day.
On that fateful day, while I was hanging out with a friend, each of her major organs failed putting increased pressure on her heart causing a massive heart attack. I would later find her dead in her bed when I came back home.
It is a reminder to tell those people in your life who you love exactly what they mean to you because you never know when they could be taken away from you.
Even though my shoulders and upper back were still sore from Saturday’s GORUCK event, I still went to the gym for a shoulder and trap lifting session.
I did have to tweak my workout in several areas, mostly just dropping weights so that I could complete the reps.
- Seated Dumbbell Shoulder Press - 1 x 12 reps (20 lb dumbbells), 2 x 10 reps (22.5 lb dumbbells), 2 x 10 reps (25 lb dumbbells)
- Barbell Upright Row - 4 x 10 reps (70 lbs)
- Dumbbell Lateral Raise - 1 x 15 reps (17.5 lb dumbbells), 2 x 15 reps (15 lb dumbbells)
- Cable Rear Delt Flye - 3 x 20 reps (20 lbs)
- Dumbbell Standing Shrugs - 1 x 10 reps (65 lb dumbbells), 1 x 10 reps (75 lb dumbbells), 1 x 10 reps (90 lb dumbbells)
My left shoulder was really tight when trying to do the seated dumbbell shoulder presses so I had to use lower weight than I thought I could lift.
However, though I had to drop weight on the seated presses, I hit a new PR on dumbbell shrugs with 10 reps using 90 lb dumbbells.
Before my injuries the most I ever used for shrugs was 95 lb dumbbells so I’m not that far off from where I was even though I still have some range of motion issues.
Since I had to shift so much on my schedule for today, the next couple of days are going to be busy before we hop on a plane Thursday night to head back to CT.
