Day 361: Another Issue with Getting My Chemo Meds

Sasha usually sleeps through the night without making a peep. Well, last night around midnight I was scared out of bed by her barking at our front door.

Something or someone must have spooked her awake and when I heard her it caused my heart to start racing and do a cursory check around our apartment.

After calming my heart down and falling back asleep I was woken up again two hours later by a loud buzzing sound coming from the bathroom in our bedroom. It turned out to be an electric shaver that had turned itself on.

It caused for an uneasy night of rest for the remainder of the night since I was convinced that something was going on. Obviously nothing was going on but you don’t always think straight in the middle of the night.

I had another early start to my morning along with back-to-back meetings through the majority of the day.

I called the CVS specialty pharmacy since I hadn’t heard from them only to find out that they’re not an approved pharmacy by our insurance company. They have only approved the same pharmacy we’ve continued to have issues with plus their delivery pharmacy.

I called our nursing staff at UCSF and they are going to try calling it in to the specialty pharmacy at UCSF, asking them to rush deliver it to me so that I can start my next round on Sunday as we had planned.

I can’t seem to make it through a round of chemo without some issue with the pharmacy. Here’s hoping that we have finally figured out a solution.

The San Francisco 49ers were holding an open practice at Levi’s Stadium so several of us left the office earlier than usual since the stadium is directly across the street from our campus and we wanted to avoid any traffic jams.

I was feeling strong after my final meeting of the day so once my pre-workout drink kicked in I tackled today’s Spartan WOD:

Warm-up

  • Dynamic warm-up – 3 movements x 2 at 25 yards each.
  • Jump rope - 5 minutes
  • Jog - 5 minutes

Main set

Do one minute of each:

  • Mountain climbers
  • Push-ups
  • Planks
  • Pull-ups (band-assisted)
  • Sit-ups w/10lb medicine ball
  • Squat jumps

Cool Down

  • Stretch

Usually I only complete 5 minutes of either jump rope or a jog but I was feeling good after finishing jump rope so I hopped on the treadmill.

I jogged 0.41 miles at a 12 min/mile pace. It was a decent jogging pace, enough to work up a sweat.

After my workout I found out about a new obstacle course race coming up in September - the 49ers Rush Challenge

Last year was the first race since it was the opening of Levi’s Stadium. From what I learned tonight it is a 4.9k run along with obstacles that are simulate a day at training camp. It’s nothing like a Spartan - there are no burpees, rope climbs or walls to hurdle but there are tire flips, combine drills and other fun obstacles.

I’ll likely sign up for it since it is 6 weeks away. It would give me an obstacle race in September and November along with a 5K in October and potentially another one I’m considering in December

I have always pushed myself with my workouts but it’s fun to have races to work towards.
