Day 359: Tackling the Spartan 150
While rifling through our storage closet on Saturday to get Darren’s cat carrier, I found one of those double fans that is meant for windows.
When we lived in Tiburon we couldn’t use it since everything was sliding glass doors so I had forgotten about it. I took it out and installed it in our bedroom window to make it even cooler at night and block out more of the street noise when we leave the windows open.
I think it’s due to that one small tweak that I was able to get nearly 5 hours of deep sleep last night which would be the most (or near the most) that I have gotten in the 1.5 years of wearing my UP band.
Today was an absolute blur from the second I got into the office. What’s crazier is that tomorrow is even busier with 10 (no, that isn’t a typo) back-to-back meetings from 8:30a-3:30p.
I shot home from work, took care of Sasha and Darren then proceeded to take my pre-workout drink.
My pre-workout drink kicked in a lot faster than normal so I got changed and ran next door to the gym since I was already starting to get pent up energy.
I was happy when I saw that the WOD was one of my favorites - the Spartan 150:
Warm-up
- Dynamic Warm Up – 3 movements x 2 at 25 yards each.
Main set
- 150 jumping jacks
- 15 burpees
- 5-15 pull-ups
- 15 box jumps
- 50 sit-ups
- 50 bodyweight squats
- 50 jumping lunges
- Run 1.5 miles
Cool Down:
- Stretch
I was able to complete all 15 pull-ups even though I had to break them up throughout my workout. I did 10 underhand pull-ups and 5 wide-grip pull-ups which, were much harder but I was still able to complete them.
For the sit-ups I used a 10 lb medicine ball which helped to exhaust my abs half-way through but I pushed through to complete all 50 of them.
I had to cut the 50 jumping lunges since I started to feel a bit of pain in my right knee which is my bad knee. I tore my medial meniscus when I was in middle school and it has always given me trouble since then.
When I had an MRI a few years ago it showed that I have a cyst from built up scar tissue. One of these days I will have to get it taken care of. But, for now I am all set with any surgeries so I rely on mobility exercises.
Tonight Laura made one of my favorite healthy meals (I know, I say that a lot): penne vodka with chicken using quinoa penne pasta and Greek yogurt as the cream sauce.
