Day 28: The First Night I Dreamt

During physical therapy yesterday we were discussing why I was having issues with losing feeling in my hands overnight.

Since I have been home I have been sleeping on an angle with my head and upper shoulders on the same pillow. My physical therapist suggested to adjust the pillow to a more traditional way of sleeping so that my shoulders were off of the pillow. The first reason was to see if that helped to solve the issue I was having. The other reason was to let gravity help with pushing my shoulders back.

We tried this overnight. I only woke up once due to losing feeling in my fingers. I did wake up a couple times near tears from how badly my left shoulder was hurting. I am assuming this was from the hard PT session and also from my shoulders being off of the pillow for the first time. Fortunately I was able to fall back asleep each time with decent ease.

One of the most interesting parts about overnight was that it was the first time that I can remember dreaming since this journey began. The dreams were very weird. But, at least I dreamt. I’m guessing that’s a good thing.

Both Laura and I were able to sleep until 8:30a this morning, nearly 2 hours later than we have slept this past week. That felt great.

I was able to do my pendulum swings, take a shower, shave and brush my teeth all before laying back down, with help of course. That was a big win. The last time we tried doing that much I became dizzy, having to rest for the remainder of the night.

I spent most of the day resting, writing a new article and watching the U.S. Open.

Tennis is one of those sports that I only tend to watch during the big tournaments, during which I remember how much I like it.

It was a lot of fun catching up with Scott Stratten and Alison Kramer today for a bit. I never thought that I would have a conversation with Scott about hot yoga. I can now check that off the list.

It’s been a beautiful day in the Bay Area so I enjoyed going for a walk with Sasha, Laura and my mother-in-law when they came back from running out for a few hours.

I’m looking forward to relaxing with Laura tonight after dinner and watching a movie - something we haven’t done since the seizures happened. We have watched a couple of TV shows together but haven’t taken time to watch a movie together.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support us while I work on recovering from my shoulder surgeries and prep for brain surgery. As I have said before, I read every comment. It’s hard to reply to all of them due to the dual shoulder slings but we do appreciate every comment, message, email or text that we receive.
