Day 242: Starting the Second Round
Much like yesterday, my day was light on meetings and quieter than usual. I had expected to either be in the 2-day training, which had been blocked on my calendar for months, or on chemo, which I had blocked a couple of weeks ago.
It has been nice having a couple quiet days because it has given me a chance to dig in deeper on a few projects, reviews and get ahead on planning.
I spoke with our leasing office this morning. Needless to say, it was a direct conversation.
They told me that they were closed yesterday due to an offsite meeting, saying that they had posted a notification on the office doors the night before.
I explained that not everyone might see the notification on the door and, if they needed to, have enough time to change shipping.
I gave them a bit of basic communication advice such as emailing all of the residents or putting fliers in mailboxes when they know the office is going to be closed.
When I was talking with two colleagues about it today they both suggested the same thing - having the chemo shipped to work from now on.
This won’t prevent the screw ups with the pharmacy from happening again but it will solve the leasing office problem.
When I came home I stopped by the leasing office to pick up this round of chemo.
Just seeing the pills when I got back upstairs made me take a deep breath. It’s hard to fully put the feeling into words.
It’s hard to grasp how a few small pills can be both so poisonous and so good for your body at the same time.
Today’s Spartan WOD was especially difficult, leaving me dripping in sweat before I even started the main set:
Warm-up:
- 2.5 minutes jumping rope
- 2.5 minutes jumping jacks
- 15 star jumps
- 1 minute arm circles
Run 15 minutes (modified: elliptical)
Main set:
- 30 mountain climbers
- 15 burpees
- 3 x 5 pull-ups
- 15 box jumps
- 15 sandbag squat-throws or squats (modified: used a 12 lb medicine ball)
- 10 crunches
- 10 jumping lunges
- 5 x 25′ bear crawl
Then, run 15 minutes. (modified: elliptical)
Dynamic and Static Stretching
For the pull-ups I used a green Monster band and was able to get 5 pull-ups, 3 pull-ups and 2 pull-ups.
Though it is still band-assisted, I was happy with being to crank out that many pull-ups especially right after completely the burpees.
As I finish typing this it is nearly time to take my anti-nausea medication followed by waiting an hour then starting the second round of chemo.
We will complete this round of chemo on Sunday night which will put us 17% of the way through this process. Every round is progress forward and we will make it through each of those gates until we complete this journey next year.
