Day 213: The First Full Day of Chemo

After taking my first dose of chemo last night I immediately went to bed before any potential fatigue kicked in. I slept well overnight even though I woke up a few times.

Since I am working from home this week I set my alarm for 6:00a. When it went off for me to go workout I felt a brief wave of nausea so decided to go back to sleep.

I finally woke up around 7:15a, feeling pretty decent. I was able to walk Sasha and feed both of them without any issues.

I didn’t have much of an appetite so only ate a Quest bar for breakfast, opting to save my protein shake for later in the day.

By mid-morning I started to feel hungry which, to me, was a sign that I wasn’t feeling nauseous so I decided to get a workout in.

Today’s Spartan WOD was:

Warm-up

Main set

  • 3 min, non-stop, Bear Crawl + Backwards Running.
  • 3 min, non-stop, Lateral Ape Walks + Low ARMY Crawls + Jumping Jacks.
  • 1 100’ Backwards Walking Lunge
  • 10 Diamond push-ups
  • 15 minute easy/recovery run.

Cool Down

Stretch

Since I workout indoors I wasn’t able to perform the low ARMY crawls even though I tried my best. As a substitute I did more lateral ape walks with 25 jumping jacks each time I started to go back the other way.

Much like yesterday, by the end of the workout I was completely drenched in sweat. I felt great during the workout, not experiencing any nausea or fatigue.

Throughout the day I purposely took breaks to allow my body to rest. I’m not sure if I felt fatigued or not but didn’t want to push my body too hard.

I didn’t have to take any anti-nausea medication even though I could have which felt like a win.

Our neuro-oncologist has said that the chemo can affect everyone at different periods of the week but we are hopeful that the rest of the week continues to go as well as today did.
