Day 193: Getting Insurance Coverage Approved for Chemo

As I laid down to fall asleep last night I decided that I wouldn’t go to the gym this morning and wouldn’t go into the office so, therefore, I didn’t set an alarm. I wanted to give my body as much time to rest as I could.

I woke up around 7:00a instead of the normal 5:00a that my alarm typically goes off. Though I fell asleep a bit later than usual, it still gave me extra time to rest.

Though still not feeling well I did feel better over yesterday. It is my hope that yesterday was the worst day of the cold and now I’m on the other side of it.

I didn’t have many meetings today which allowed me to rest my voice. At one point I had 1.5 hours of meetings and by the end of it I could barely speak in between the non-stop coughing.

Beyond allowing my voice to rest, a lack of meetings gave me a chance to balance getting work done with resting.

I have an all-day planning meeting tomorrow so I wanted to rest as much as possible today, even if that meant simply working from my cough instead of from my office.

Since I didn’t go to the gym this morning that meant another morning of not getting in solid shoulder mobility work though I did do some basic work while watching TV as I do almost every day.

We received a call from our insurance company saying that the chemo treatment had been approved under our coverage.

That was a big relief to us because the medication comes at a cost of approximately $3,000-$7,000 per month.

If it wasn’t covered that would have been a lot of money to pay out of pocket. Thankfully, with our medical coverage we will only have to roughly pay for about one month of the medication.

I made an appointment on Monday to get the blood work drawn that is needed before visiting the fertility clinic and starting the chemo treatment.

I reached out to the fertility clinic nurse but haven’t heard back from her yet so that we can schedule that visit hopefully within the next week.

Tonight was another night of having soup, crackers and diet ginger-ale. Even though my throat doesn’t hurt too bad, my stomach hurts from coughing so much throughout the day so soup helps to make me feel better. My cough is still hanging out but I am starting to feel better.

I’m hoping that with another good night of sleep that I can kick this head cold to the curb.
